The story
Coffee grown the long way.
The conventional coffee industry pushed sun-grown monoculture for decades. Higher yield per hectare, easier mechanization, faster planting cycles. The cost was biodiversity loss, topsoil erosion, and a coffee landscape that increasingly looks like industrial agriculture instead of forest. The cup pays for it too. Coffee grown under direct sun ripens fast and tastes flat.
We buy from farms that grow under native shade canopy. Finca Acatenango in Guatemala maintains a multi-storied native canopy the family planted themselves. It shades the coffee plants and feeds the migrating birds passing through every spring. The Kochere cooperative in Ethiopia does reforestation work along the riverbanks at Yirgacheffe. Slow farming. Slower yield. Better coffee.
We roast to order in small batches and ship within 48 hours. Less coffee sitting on warehouse shelves means less waste downstream. The bag carries what's still in season at origin. The work is slower than the conventional industry. The result lasts longer.
