Head Roaster
About the role
You'll own the craft at the center of everything we do: the roast. As Head Roaster, you'll develop and maintain the profiles for every single-origin lot we ship, run our roast-to-order production, and hold the bar on quality from green bean to the bag on a customer's counter. It's a hands-on role with real ownership — your palate and your decisions are what people taste in every cup.
What you'll do
- Develop, dial in, and maintain roast profiles for each single-origin lot and seasonal release.
- Run daily roast-to-order production and keep our shipping commitments — roasted and out within 48 hours.
- Cup and QC every batch, then flag, fix, and document so quality is consistent bag to bag.
- Partner with our green coffee buyer on inventory, incoming lots, and what to roast when.
- Calibrate and maintain roasting equipment; keep the roastery clean, safe, and dialed.
- Hire, train, and mentor roastery teammates as we grow.
What you'll bring
- 3+ years of production roasting on commercial equipment.
- A sharp, reliable palate and strong cupping skills — you can taste a problem before a customer does.
- Comfort with roast software and using data to make profile decisions, not just instinct.
- Physical readiness for a roastery floor — lifting up to 60 lb bags, on your feet.
- Obsessive attention to detail and genuine love for great coffee.
Nice to have
- Q Grader certification.
- Experience scaling a roastery's output without losing quality.
- Exposure to green buying or direct-trade sourcing.
